The company was established in 2002 and produce a range of motorcycle gear, including some awesome helmets. Today we are looking at the Icon Airflite range. The Icon Airflite helmet is a little different from other helmet designs, boasting a Tron Legacy style visor that curves down to and around the chin vents. The Airflite comes in a range of cool badass designs, some of our favourites pictured below. ![]() Protection begins with a double D-ring chin strap, not fast but known to be the most reliable way to secure a helmet. The end of the strap loops back on itself and snaps onto a push-button above the D-ring, to ensure that it will not pull through. The removable helmet liner is a fast-wicking material that ICON call HydraDry™. > Read also our guide to the best modular motorcycle helmets This is a protective layer that pulls moisture away and encourages airflow in towards the skin. Impact protection comes from an EPS foam, which is injection molded into the shell of the helmets for the greatest level of foam consistency. There is a small rear spoiler to help with turbulence, and this also encourages the flow of air through the rear air vents.Īnd to keep the EPS together, a polycarbonate shell, which also keeps the weight down. ![]() And the larger vent at the chin pushes air through from the visor into the helmet for which there are three airflow rates. The visor is larger than it needs to be and plays more of a style roll than that of function. You can improve the look by replacing the clear visor for iridium or a tint. Icon also makes other visors that will fit this lid if you want to dial it back a bit.Ī clear visor is fine, and there is no need for adding tinting other than style. There is another shaded visor built-in to the helmet, which is easy to retract or put down when you want to ride with the main visor up.
